David Claerbout, Arvida Byström og Ida Lissner Open House
A glimpse into the future Kunsthal Spritten
For more than 140 years, classic Danish aquavits were produced at Aalborg’s iconic spirits factory. In the years ahead, the former factory’s boiler hall will be transformed into an art centre of the future, focusing on digital art and culture.
For the Open House event on 4–7 August and 12–14 August, we present the world-renowned Belgian artist David Claerbout and Scandinavian talents Arvida Byström and Ida Lissner. Each of the three artists apply their own distinctive visual idiom as they unfold the unique artistic possibilities offered by digital technologies.
Belgian artist David Claerbout has enchanted audiences worldwide with his digital film works. Claerbout creates cinematic tableaux that appear to bring us very close to other people. Yet every scene is digitally constructed. With this move, the artist mirrors our human longing for connection.
Scandinavian talents Arvida Byström and Ida Lissner are raising the bar for new digital art forms. Byström has taken the internet by storm with her performance-based photographs and films. Lissner creates breathtaking, coral-like landscapes, and only on closer inspection do we realise the scenery is generated by computers, a stand-in for real nature.
