Follow the mushrooms

Digital worlds can activate our imagination and open up new spaces for reflection.

Ida Lissner (b. 1992) is a young Danish artist and designer who works with the phenomenon of worldbuilding. Using a homemade computer, she creates glittering, lush digital landscapes. The works mirror our physical world and nature’s shifting character, placing us in complex settings.

Many people know the concept of ‘worldbuilding’ or ‘world-making’ from the realm of gaming. There, we move around a digital world that we control, shape, or perhaps even build ourselves. As a digital artist, Ida Lissner creates worlds where nature is central: it can change, create and break itself down. These digital worlds are full of life, but not as we know it. Here, species merge and flow into one another across categories such as animal and plant life.

Kunsthal Spritten Digital presents Ida Lissner’s video work Follow the mushrooms (2021). Kunsthal Spritten has previously shown Ida Lissner’s works The remembering of Mnemosyne and Cave museum at an Open House event in the boiler hall in August 2022.
