Join us for Moiré, a concert and sound installation by artist Lars Greve set in Kunsthal Spritten’s boiler hall.

Join us on Friday 9 February 2024 when sound artist Lars Greve (b. 1983) brings Kunsthal Spritten’s former boiler hall to life with his clarinet. Aalborg’s almost 100-year-old, listed spirits factory is awakened from its doze and welcomes guests of all ages for a rare listening experience created on-site. There will be no rows of chairs, no raised stage – just Greve and his clarinet in the bare boiler hall.

Greve is interested in how sound can connect people on an emotional level -and in how the distinctive tones of a clarinet can forge connections between us and our surroundings. In early February, Lars Greve transforms the boiler hall into a resonant space that you can experience on your own on 6–7 February. On the final day of the installation, Friday 9 February, Greve performs a series of improvised concerts in which the boiler hall becomes a monumental instrument. In the process, he rewrites its history and adds new dimensions that point both backwards and forwards in time and space.

Using a minimalist set-up of twelve polished metal plates hanging from the ceiling and a specially developed subwoofer, the clarinet’s sound is amplified and thrown around the bare, open space. The metal resonates differently depending on your own location in the space, and the sound changes as visitors move around, stand up or lie down, feeling the physical vibrations in their bodies.

Information

Lars Greve will perform his concert on Friday 9 February, 19.00–20.00 (doors open 18.15).

The concert is free and open to the public. Capacity is limited, so registration is required on a first-come, first-served basis. For that reason, we will charge a symbolic ‘no-show fee’ if you don’t use your ticket and do not cancel in advance

You can also enjoy the sound installation on your own in the boiler hall on Tuesday 6 February and Wednesday 7 February, both days from 12.00 to 14.00. It’s free, suitable for all ages, and requires no registration.

Please note: The space has neither water nor heating, so bring a coat, and perhaps a head torch.
