Aalborg’s historic distillery celebrates its 90th birthday
The Spritten factory was inaugurated on 12 August 1931. Even during construction, the then ultra-modern distillery attracted great attention and distinguished visitors. Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning was among the prominent guests at the topping-out ceremony on 6 October 1929. On that occasion, cake, soft drinks and Danish fruit wine were served to the many hundreds of workers gathered for the occasion, and the local newspaper Nordjyske Stiftstidende offered vivid descriptions of the future factory, outlining the progress and architectural craft it represented. Thousands of pine trees from Rold Forest would support the beautiful red-brick buildings on the soft ground by the Limfjord.
Now, on the threshold of the factory’s next chapter, we invite you to celebrate Spritten’s 90th birthday with an Open House event in the boiler hall – and once again, cake, Danish fruit wine and soft drinks will be served to the first 250 guests. It gives us great pleasure that Fonden Artcenter Spritten, together with a circle of partners, are now able to welcome the public, for the first time ever, inside the art centre of the future. With Kunsthal Spritten and Aalborg’s new landmark, Cloud City Aalborg, created by world-renowned Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno, Spritten begins a new chapter as an open, vibrant district in the heart of Aalborg.
